UKRAINIAN HOUSE

Ukrainian House reinterprets Ukrainian architectural traditions for contemporary living. Set on a 1,500 m² sloping site, 20 kilometres from
Kyiv, the project responds to wartime needs for tranquillity and protection, incorporating a bomb shelter beneath the main living level.
At its heart, a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Ukrainian hruba provides warmth and brings the family together. Embroidery-inspired brick screens filter daylight, creating changing patterns of light and shadow. Pale yellow brick recalls historic Kyiv masonry. Ceramic tiles, aged timber and textured plaster reference regional crafts, while earthy microcement and Corten steel evoke earthen floors and weathered rural metalwork. Private courtyards, shared gardens and skylights connect daily life with nature and the seasons. A spruce tree visible from the living room becomes the family’s Christmas tree.
Following the natural terrain, the house integrates seamlessly into the slope. An external staircase leads to a green roof overlooking the valley. The project brings together cultural heritage, family life, and a deep connection to the land.

«Ukrainian House» переосмислює традиції української архітектури для сучасного життя. Серце будинку — сучасне переосмислення традиційної груби, що зігріває оселю та об’єднує родину. Ажурні цегляні екрани, натхненні українською вишивкою, пропускають денне світло й створюють мінливу гру світла та тіні. Кахлі, зістарене дерево та фактурна штукатурка продовжують місцеві ремісничі традиції, а природні відтінки мікроцементу й кортенівської сталі нагадують долівку та метал, зістарений часом у сільських садибах.
Приватні подвір’я, спільні сади та світлові ліхтарі в даху поєднують повсякденне життя з природою і зміною пір року. Ялина, яку видно з вітальні, стає родинним різдвяним деревом. Будинок повторює природний рельєф і вписується у схил, а зовнішні сходи ведуть на озеленений дах із краєвидом на долину. Проєкт поєднує культурну спадщину, родинний затишок і зв’язок із рідною землею.
